People often think that it is important to keep all aspects of meditation private. We think that because meditating is quiet, it is something that we can only do on our own. However, we find it much easier if you can have a community of people around you who enjoy meditation.
I know that at times, I have trouble staying motivated to meditate. I feel like I run out of time or I just feel like I have better things to do. The community of people that I have around me who love to meditate help me when I feel like that. These friends and family members remind me of the benefits I experience from meditation and how it can impact my life. They can share tips or ask me for advice. That is why it is so important to have people around you who practice meditation. We always need people that we can depend on and who can depend on us. Even if you don’t struggle with motivation, it is helpful to have people you can talk to.
Your Community Can Be Family/Friends
Your community of meditators doesn’t need to be experts. My best group is just my friends and some family members. We can grab lunch, text, or call if we have questions or need help. They don’t have much experience, but sometimes I can learn something fantastic from their experiences that I wouldn’t get anywhere else. You can start your community with just one other person. Just find one person who meditates and start talking about it with them. Eventually you can reach out to other people, but in the beginning anything is good.
You should be comfortable with asking any questions because chances are that someone else has the same question as you. I understand that you might feel like your question is dumb or that you just aren’t doing it right, but your community shouldn’t make you feel like that. Be respectful to all questions that you are asked, and people will respect yours too. Find people that you are comfortable with and that you trust.
With these points of advice, I encourage you to find a community of your own or even establish one. I promise that it will make meditating a lot easier. It will also bring you the gratification of knowing that you were able to help someone else with something that can truly impact their life.
