Meditation is such a great tool and it is important that you stay on top of it. By meditating every day, you will see the full benefits that meditation can bring. However, you might be so busy that you forget to meditate! Forgetting to meditate does not help your stress, even if you don’t realize you forgot. That is why it is so necessary to create a habit out of meditating.
Meditation brings many benefits, such as stress relief, clarity, relaxation, improved focus, and improved sleep. All of these benefits help you every day, so you need to meditate every day. The problem with that is most people don’t. Meditating should be just as important as brushing your teeth, and it doesn’t need to take much longer either. Habits such as brushing our teeth are part of your routine, so if you can make meditating part of your routine, you will have a better time remembering.
Making meditation a habit comes from many different ways of changing the way you meditate. One such way is by using queues in your life. If I were to meditate right after brushing my teeth, they would eventually become like one action to me. Using brushing my teeth as the queue for meditating is a great example because it is a task you do twice a day. That means two reminders for meditation a day! However, this might not be a good time for everyone to meditate, so you can use other queues such as eating lunch, feeding a pet, putting on shoes, or getting dressed.
Another way to make meditation a habit is to find a way to enjoy it. I don’t mean just thinking that you will do it because it is good for you; I mean finding something you actually take pleasure in. For me it is the peace brought into my chaotic life. It is like a little refresher during the day to give me back my state of mind. It could be the same for you, or it could be something as simple as the relaxation of just sitting. As long as you can find something in it you truly enjoy, it will not become a chore but something you look forward to.
One of the biggest things to do when making meditation a habit is to stick with a routine. This means meditating in the same place at the same time every day. This will train our mind that this is the time for meditation, so I need to go to this spot and meditate. You will soon find yourself going to meditate at the same time without even thinking about it. It is like when you are driving on the weekend and accidentally start going to work, just because you do that every day. Creating and sticking to such a routine also helps us create a sense of organization and peace. There is a feeling of reliability that comes with knowing that whatever goes wrong in your day, meditation will be there at the same time and place as always.
As you create your habit of meditation, keep these tips in mind. Even if they seem simple to you, they are important and often get ignored. Once you get in the habit of meditating every day, you will see a great increase in the benefits of meditation. Remember to keep with your habit and not get rid of all the hard work you put towards it.
